Google book search moves to beta

Google’s newest venture, essentially serving book recommendations in organic search results is in beta:
From the Google Print FAQ:
“Publishers’ content is hosted by Google and is ranked in our search results according to the same technology we use to evaluate websites.”

It’s an opt-in process for publishers to include their books in the index, and the print search results are delivered in between the regular results. This means that the new feature’s success will not depend on reaching a critical mass of titles that span the entire spectrum of the book universe, but will work seamlessly from the very first titles they index. It’s usefulness of course is dependent on the critical mass of results, but until then it is an extension of the Google search capability, just like their weather, package tracking, etc tools are.
