Néhány idézet a cikkből:

  • Amsterdam has budgeted 100 million euros ($125 million U.S.) over the next five years to encourage more of the city’s citizens to ride bicycles. The goal is that by 2010, 37 percent of local urban trips will be made by bike, up from 28 percent today.
  • Since 1986, the number of riders injured in the city has dropped by 35 percent. At the same time, bicycle use increased 20 percent, according to the Prague-based Carbusters magazine (June/Aug. 2006).
  • The new policies also aim to reduce bike theft. Every year, about 75,000 bikes have been stolen in Amsterdam. In the wake of recent anti-theft campaigns, including severe penalties for thieves, only one out of 10 bicycles gets stolen each year, instead of one out of five. The target for 2010 is one out of 15.
