Sunny afternoon
Today was fun. I met Chris for the first time and we wandered around, took some photos and looked in a few bookstores, three of my favourite things to do. I finished a roll in my Lomo, but then promptly discovered that the shutter doesn't open at all - which makes me very sad. I already miss my dear Lomo.
(Chris, i hope you don't get your copyright lawyer to knock on my door Monday morning... :) )
The looking in a few bookstores part of the afternoon cost me $110 in the end, but i have 5 cool new books to dive into:
Hey Nostradamus by Coupland (duh, like i hadn't mentioned this book at least 10 times in this blog so far)
How to Be Alone and The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen
Swedish Reflections by Judith Black (a collection of essays about Sweden to satisfy my sverige-mania
A Multitude of Sins by Richard Ford - Chris recommended this

Clark, the internet and the presidential race
I am very very very happy that there is finally a high profile internationally well-known Democrat presidential candidate. I have heard of Dean and saw his internet-powered campaign, but i do not recognise him. I am a European so i am only aware of the US politicians who get airtime on CNN International and Wesley Clark is definitely someone who is well known in Europe. I first got to know him during the NATO intervention in Yugoslavia in 1999, and ever since then he has been given lots of airtime as an analyst in international issues and conflicts and politics.
Today Wired ran a story about how Clark was actually convinced to run by the internet community: Clark's Run: Net made him do it
"Clark apparently decided to run following an elaborate Internet-based draft movement that grew on its own, without much help from the candidate himself. The organization had established offices in all 50 states, run radio ads in New Hampshire and garnered nearly $1.6 million in pledges as of Tuesday afternoon, according to one of its organizers, John Hlinko."
Yet another of these amazing stories about the internet and the people connected by it.

Lakeside lomo
These were taken in July during my vacation at Balaton, the largest lake of Hungary. The whole roll that i shot there is amazing, i am going to post them when i get a chance to scan them. The scanner is blanding the colors, the images are much more saturated but i hate to mess with the color settings on the computer because then it feels like i am editing the image and making it fake. When in reality, this *is* the fake image. Anyway, i hope you like them as much as i do. More to come soon!

My LOMO is sick again...
I was so happy when I changed batteries and thought i had solved my LOMO's sticky shutter-like problem. And now, two rolls of films later, it's worse than it was before. :( The previous roll had 5 blank shots, and the one i got back from the lab yesterday has about 50% of the pics all blank and the rest of them aren't right either, there's this dark kind of filter on most of them, as if they'd been shot at low light with short exposure, but they are in fact daylight shots. I don't think i will have it done here in Vancouver so i will have to wait until November when i get back to Hungary to have it checked out by a photo repair wizard person.
On the other hand, if you know someone who could take a look at it and help me in Vancouver, please comment here and i will be forever greatful!
In the meantime, you can look at my lomohome, there are no fresh pics, but the new layout is worth a look.

Wifi happiness ^2
The neighbor closed the wifi connection two days ago, so that was my brief piggybacking adventure. I signed up with FatPort, a local wi-fi provider, and am actually surfing through them right now, at Harbour Centre in Vancouver. It's a 11Mbps connection, very fast.
