Amazon.com may not go bankrupt
Amazon.com may not go bankrupt yet, but i certainly do...because of them. I just ordered 11 books with a grand total of $157 for the order (after applying $35 coupon credit...). I can't help it, i am just addicted to the net and to books, and because amazon is both the net and books, it's my secret drug. :)
I just added a
I just added a comments thingie to this blog. Now all of you out there can raise your hands and say something to me and to the rest of the world through this blog. Please do send me comments, i would love to hear who - if anyone - reads this besides me. :) I hope it works OK.

This is so true:
This is so true:
"In the age of television, Americans were treated to graphic scenes of soldiers dying. In the age of mobile phones, we can now say goodbye to the casualties before they die. It is a haunting privilege, a glimpse into the mind-set of the doomed. Just like the images, the voices tell us more and less than we want to know. "

I managed to get
I managed to get my hands on my favourite writer's newest book out last week but made a mistake. I am on a mailing list for fans of his writing and of course everyone was jumping on the book when it came out two weeks ago, and now they are all posting their reviews. And even if i don't want to read the reviews, i read the subjects of the messages and it's clear that they all think this is something that is not as good as his previous books. :( So now i am looking forward to it a lot les than i originally did...
This happened to me all the time when i was working for the now defunct Globopolis.com website, translating movie reviews. By definition, reviews come out before the movies, so i could *never* escape knowing all about the movie that i was just going to see. Which sucks. Just as much as with books from your favourite author. (DC, if you ever read this by any chance, we still love you and love your words! :) )

Today my nose had
Today my nose had an overdose in onion smells. I cooked onion soup and while mincing the onions i kept dropping huge crocodile tears. In the evening, Mom cooked a meal that had a very strong onion and garlic smell while cooking so there we go again...You never know when onions strike again...
Wow. Modified the template
Wow. Modified the template today so you can now link to individual posts. :) If you want to...
If i could, i would
If i could, i would design a service where you can put in a few song titles (NOT albums) and the artist, and it would recommend other songs for you to listen to. I am now listening to Loreena McKennit's Tango to Evora and i am finding it very fascinating and soothing and very cool. And i haev no idea where i can find songs like these. Because the other songs of McKennitt don't have that buzz that this song has (although i like her music very much).

I was glued to
I was glued to the TV screen last week, i just couldn't NOT watch it. Tuesday's events stirred up my world, and i still haven't really got a grasp of what really is happening here. I am hoping for a better world for my future kids... Sunday was the day when i said it was enough. I couldn't watch any more of the TV coverage for my own mental health...and shut down the TV. So after that, i was thinking, how well did the media do in covering the attacks?
Well, here in Europe, we have CNN, BBC News, Euronews and MSBNC Europe to choose from, plus the national channels of course. I was watching CNN, and occasionally BBC, but i found myself drawn back to CNN all the time because of teh familiarity of the voices (i watch it a lot even in peaceful times) and the comprehensive and varied reports from all over the US and the world. BBC was the second best, maybe if i wasn't biased towards CNN because i am used to it, i would have liked it much more than CNN actually. MSNBC was too business focused for me, but they *are* a business channel after all... Euronews was fair enough, but not much special, they are also partly owned by CNN, so got a lot of their reports from there. Our national TV was showing CNN's coverage nonstop on Tuesday and part of Wednesday with Hungarian commentary, that was at times unbearably stupid and
inappropriate, at other times very interesting.

CNN.com The world is
CNN.com The world is gone mad today. I cannot believe this happened. Beyond words. And i am a continent away, i can't even imagine what those in NYC must feel now...

First day of the
First day of the semester. The one i was dreading sooo much. Yikes.
Woke up at 7:05 to a stupid phonecall for a family member. Woke up again at 7:45 to the sound of my phone's alarm. Put it on snooze. Woke up again at 7:55. This time it was my final answer. Looked at the window and it was hazy, like it is when it's very cold outside. Looked at the thermomether outside and it said 10C. Which is way cold. So i got dressed before i had breakfast, then read emails, and went to school. The classes were way better than i expected because we had some cool teachers, but the averall feeling in my brain still is: i hate this school. The commute was horrible as usual...
Semester ends Dec 21.

I was going to
I was going to write about rain yesterday. And blogger didn't work. So in my desperation to search for rainy stuff i cam across this. It has nothing to do with rain other than the title of the page, but i *love* the first picture. How the cat is sleeping and the girl is sleeping. It's a nice picture. More later.

If i only had
If i only had a magic wand to point at my room and it would be organized and clean in a second. I have been sorting it out for 5 days now and still have much work to do with it. And of course clutter attrackts dustbunnies and i am allergic to dust. So i have to stop every fwe hours and go outside do something else. Which doesn't help the discipline. And i also find heeps of stuff to sell on eBay which is great but also means that it stays in the room and doesn't go out right now, like it should.
I also found some cool stuff in the drawers. Old emails from 1995-97 when i had my email at my Dad's office. Fun stuff with long-gone email addresses and lots of little pieces of paper with website addresses that no longer work. Historical memorabilia...
